NoWhere Grill Hosts Free Community Breakfast

By Laura Lombardi
Owners Kelly and Matt Lyons of NoWhere Grill recently introduced what they hope will become a new community tradition by hosting their first Community Breakfast. The idea grew from conversations with other locals expressing a desire to bring neighbors together over a free, hot breakfast while highlighting local businesses.
More than 100 family members, friends, and neighbors gathered to enjoy sourdough pancakes and farm-fresh eggs provided by Shawn and Emily Johnston of Homegrown Acres. The smell of fresh coffee filled the air as neighbors visited over breakfast, catching up with old friends, making new connections, and enjoying the kind of fellowship that reflects the heart of small-town living.
“They are a first-generation farming family in Belle Plaine,” explained Kelly. “Just over a year ago, they made the leap from their corporate careers to provide the community with nutrient-dense food raised the way nature intended.”
Homegrown Acres is home to approximately 1,300 pasture-raised hens, rotationally grazed dairy cows, honey bees, flowers, and produce, all raised using regenerative farming practices. The family offers pasture-raised eggs, raw honey, dairy products, and handcrafted sourdough bread to customers throughout the area.
Additional breakfast sponsors included Sysco, Ken Gooch Insurance Agency, MJB Heating & Cooling, and Sumner County Economic Development. With the support of local businesses and organizations, the Lyons hope to continue hosting the Community Breakfast on a quarterly basis.
While guests certainly enjoyed a delicious breakfast, the morning was about much more than pancakes and eggs. It was an opportunity to slow down, share a table with neighbors, support local businesses, and strengthen the sense of community.
“We’re incredibly thankful to have had Homegrown Acres and our other sponsors partner with us to help feed our community in more ways than one,” said Kelly. “It helps make Belle Plaine such a special place to call home.”
