Slate Valley Baptist Church Celebrates 150 Years

The congregation of Slate Valley Baptist Church invites the community to join them in celebrating the church’s 150th anniversary this Sunday, July 26.

Anniversary services will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at 3 p.m.

Originally located in rural Oxford, the church was organized on July 30, 1876, by Elder James Hopkins. A Sabbath School was established in 1885 with separate classes for boys, girls, men and women.

In 1909, the church building was purchased and moved to its current location at the corner of 80th Street South and Oxford Road, four miles south of Oxford. The church bell was added in 1940 as a gift from the First Baptist Church in Wellington.

The congregation welcomes community members, former members and friends to help celebrate 150 years of faith, fellowship and service.
