Latest Drought Monitor shows developing drought in western Kansas

In the latest drought monitor released on Thursday, the map shows small increases in drought across western Kansas, thanks in part to extreme heat over last weekend into the first part of this week.

Most of the southwest Kansas region is in a Moderate Drought state, while the southwest corner and other parts remain in a Severe Drought. Lane County and parts of Scott and Ness Counties are either abnormally dry or have no drought.

Temperatures will cool off slightly heading in to August, but will increase by Monday, with little to no chances of precipitation.
