Lady Beaver volleyball to display a young squad in 2026

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Through the first week, Scott City volleyball has the makings of making improvements this year. With over 30 players making up this year’s squad, only four are seniors.

Key returners from a 16-23 team a year ago include a couple of seniors in Peyton Gentry and Lily Lightner, to go along with three others who have varsity playing experience. Also returning is senior Katie Weathers, who missed the entire 2025-26 sports season with an injury.

Shelby Feely returns for her second season in her second tenure as the Lady Beaver head coach, to go along with assistants Desiree Cooper and Jessica Berning.

Scott City will be busy in their second week together, as they host a Jamboree with Hoxie and South Gray on Tuesday, and will face Oakley and Wallace County in Oakley next Friday. The Lady Plainsmen came up just short of finishing in the top four at state a year ago, and return a majority of their lineup. They also switched out tournaments this year, as they will head to the Liberal Tournament in mid September instead of the early season tournament in Hays.
