Scott City football to be tested early on

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The 2026 season will see Scott City be tested early on, as they wrapped up their first week of practices on Saturday with an intrasquad scrimmage.

Around 45 players make up this year’s team, with only eight of the players in their senior season. With just five returning starters on offense and four on defense, the Beavers will be tested early on, but feel they are up to the challenge. Quarterback Drew Metzger, along with fellow senior linemen Easton Eisenhour and Reid Felker bring back plenty of experience.

They will have three new opponents on the schedule in the first three weeks. A preseason top 10 team in Class 4A at Great Bend, who dropped from Class 4A, followed by a home tilt with Colorado preseason No. 5 team in 4A in Mesa Ridge at home, and Russell, who had one of their best seasons in recent history in their first three games. Their district remains the same.

Jim Turner, the longest-tenured head coach in school history, enters his 11th season as the head coach. The coaching staff remains the same, as Brian Gentry, Drew Kite, Colborn Couchman, Michael McEachern and Derek Brau round out the staff.

Scott City will compete at a new Jamoree this year, as they’ll square off against Garden City and Wichita SE on Friday in Garden City.
