Gruver girls, Holcomb boys win Hugoton Cross Country Invite

Hugoton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Several area schools made the trip to Hugoton on Saturday for the annual Hugoton Invitational Cross Country meet at Forewinds Golf Course. In one of the best running days of the year, Gruver, Texas would dominate the girls race, and the Holcomb boys would cruise to the boys title.

Lakin would finish second on the girls side, as Kate Miller finished second place and Jeci Mead was fifth. The individual winner was South Gray’s Jenna Simmons, as the Lady Rebels were fourth as a team. Cimarron’s Jyntri Wilson placed third. Scott City was ffith, led by Hannah Winter’s sixth place finish. Hugoton was sixth with Kenzi Pike was 15th. Southwestern Heights placed seventh as a team, led by Hannah Fieser with her 10th place finish. Ulysses was eighth.

On the boys side, Holcomb won by 29 points over Scott City. The Longhorns were paced by Jeremiah Gonzalez with a second place finish, and Ian VanPelt was seventh. Scott City was second, as Michael Hermosillo won his second straight race, and Carson Gabel placed third. Lakin placed third, led by a fifth and sixth place finish from Miles Delgado and Gavin Dyas. Meade’s Jordy Padgett was fourth and Satanta’s Edger Najera was ninth. Cimarron’s Ian Harmon was eighth.
