Lady Beaver volleyball topples Colby in four sets

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball squad returned home for a dual on Tuesday evening against the Colby Eagles at the Scott Community Events Center. Both teams would go back and forth throughout the night, and in the end, the Lady Beavers would prevail in four sets 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.

The first set saw 10 ties and five lead changes. Colby led 15-11 at the midway point, using a 9-2 run. The Lady Beavers countered with seven strait, only to see the Lady Eages go on a 6-1 run to lead 21-19. It would be tied at 21, when Colby rattled off four straight to take the opening set 25-21.

Scott City never trailed in the second set. They used 10-3 run to build a 19-10 lead. The Lady Eagles would make one final push, going on an 8-2 run to pull to within 21-18. It would be the Lady Beavers putting up the final four points to take the set 25-18.

In the third set, six lead changes and eight ties commenced. Colby jumped out early on, and Scott City went on a 9-3 run to lead 18-13. The Lady Eagles rallied for six straight to take the lead, only to see the Lady Beavers respond and close out the set on a 7-2 run to take the third set 25-21.

Scott City jumped out big early in the fourth set, up 7-1, as the Lady Eagles made a push to pull to witihin 10-9. The Lady Beavers then scored the next six points, only to be countered by an 11-4 run by Colby to tie the set at 20. After both teams were tied at 21, Scott City closed out the set and match with four straight points to take it 25-21.

Individually for the Lady Beavers, Peyton Gentry had 15 kills and two service aces unofficially, while Maddie Goode added 11 kills an ace and a block point. Katie Weathers added seven Kills. Kinleieh Hickey had three service aces and Adda Gossman had three block points.

Scott City is now 9-7 on the season, and will be in Cimarron for GWAC Triangular on Thursday, taking on Cimarron and Holcomb. Colby dropped to 7-10.
