2026-27 Classifications released by KSHSAA
The Kansas High School Activities Association released classifications for the 2026-27 school year on Thursday morning. Classifications are based on enrollement in grades 9-12, and was turned in on September 21.
Overall, there were 14 schools that changed classifications from the previous year. Class 4A was the only classification that did not have a change.
Class 5A & 6A Swapped JC Harmon from Kansas City, who moved up to 6A, while Wichita West is back to 5A.
The lone southwest Kansas change is Syracuse. They saw a big increase in enrollment and are now the smallest Class 3A School. It will be their first time in the classification in at least 12 years. Hillsboro and Central Heights also bumped up to Class 3A. Dropping to Class 2A were Jayhawk-Linn, Phillipsburg and Oskaloosa.
Moving up to Class 2A were Wabaunsee, Clifton-Clyde and Olpe. Dropping to Class 1A included Northern Heights, Rawlins County and Udall.
While most activities will be under this classification, Football for this season and next season will not be affected, because of the two-year cycle.
The largest school in the state is Wichita East with 2,363 students, while St. Xavier and Triplains are the smallest with 16 students. Dodge City and Garden City were the largest schools in the area and are the third and fourth largest schools in the state.
