Scott City visits Ulysses in GWAC showdown

Ulysses, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In one of the longest rivalries in southwest Kansas, Scott City and Ulysses will be for the 77th time on Friday night at Maxwell Field.

Scott City picked up their first win of the year last Friday night in a 43-8 win over the Russell Broncos at Darner Field. The Broncos scored on their opening drive, but after that, it was all Scott City. They scored 15 first quarter points, and put up 21 more points in the second, en route to the win. The Beavers outgained Russell 392-230, and had a decisive 335-91 advantage on the ground. This year, Scott City is averaging 28 points and over 300 yards of offense, while allowing 33 points and over 350 yards per game. Drew Metzger has passed for over 300 yards and rushed for an additional 300 yards this year.

Ulysses is 2-1 for the first time since 2019, following a 49-28 loss at Holcomb last Friday night. The Tigers fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and were unable to rally back. In the loss, they threw for 352 yards and finished with 435 yards of offense, and gave up 447 yards of offense, with 321 coming on the ground. Through the first three games, Ulysses is averaging just under 48 points and over 400 points per game, while giving up around 18 points per contest. Caden Ledesma has connected on nearly 80 percent of his passes, throwing for nearly 800 yards on the season.

This is the 77th meeting all time between the two programs, with Scott City leading the series 45-30-1. The Beavers have won 10 straight in the series, which is the longest win streak in the series by either side.
