Broncbusters force five turnovers in 19-14 win at Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (Western Kansas News) — Garden City Community College forced five turnovers and scored 19 unanswered points to beat Coffeyville Community College 19-14 on Saturday.

After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, the Broncbusters pulled within a point on Tucker Rinker’s field goals of 25 and 41 yards. Anthony McQueen connected with Amarri Range for a 33-yard touchdown with 2:01 remaining in the second quarter, giving Garden City a 13-7 halftime lead.

The Broncbusters continued working multiple quarterbacks throughout the game, and Marte Barton extended the advantage for Garden City with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jamarcus Smith midway through the third quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

Coffeyville cut the deficit to five on backup quarterback John Nicholas’ 30-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Howard with 6:30 remaining. Garden City held on, forcing a fumble on the final Coffeyville drive of the game, recovered by sophomore linebacker Kyeran Garcia to run out the clock for a 19-14 victory.

McQueen completed 15 of 30 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Gauge Miesse led Garden City’s receivers with 75 yards on three catches, while Edward Williams rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries.

The Broncbusters recovered three fumbles and intercepted two passes, overcoming 16 penalties for 150 yards. Coffeyville held a 338-337 edge in total offense.
