USD 457 Board of Education Meeting Recap September 12, 2026

Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, October 12, 2026.  The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street. 

The Board recognized Kealie Bryant, FFA National Finalist, Addyson Bjurstrom, Kansas Horizon Award Nominee, Kelly Myatt, Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominee, and Scott Glass,  Kansas Teacher of the Year Finalist. 

The Board received a building presentation from Plymell Elementary School. Students from the school led the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Students from the Lighthouse team presented about the great things that are happening at the school.

The Board approved the following items during the meeting. They include minutes of the September 24, 2026, Regular Board of Education Meeting. Accounts Payable, with all major accounts containing adequate balances to meet current obligations. Personnel certified and classified actions.

The Board received a Structured Literacy presentation from Steve Nordby, Assistant Superintendent, and Heather Stegman, Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.

Under new business, they approved the final design and construction documents for the Kenneth Henderson Middle School expansion, along with the construction contract framework that will be included as part of the project’s competitive bid package.

They approved the purchase of one Activity Bus from National Bus Sales for $252,650.00.

There was a first reading of Board of Education policy updates: GAN Travel Expenses and JBCDA Student In-District Transfers.

At the end of the meeting, the Board held an executive session. The session was for personnel matters for non-elected personnel. No action was taken after the executive session.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will take place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 5:00 P.M. in the Board Meeting Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St., Garden City, Kansas.
