Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It will be a chilly evening for high school football in Scott City, as the Beavers play host to the Goodland Cowboys in GWAC and District 8 play at Darner Field. Temperatures are expected to be in the 40’s throughout the night as Scott City plays their final home game of the season.

Goodland enters tonight’s contest with a 4-2 record following a 50-0 win over the Colby Eagles at Cowboy Stadium last Friday night. It was their largest margin of victory in the series, as they are off to their best start since 2013 under first year head coach Dax Ruhs. They jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and rolled up over 400 yards of offense, while yielding just under 100 to the Eagles. Sophomore quarterback Reid Cure has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns while Jaxson Miller has hauled in eight touchdowns for an offense that is averaging 31 points and nearly 350 yards a contest, while allowing 19 points and 250 yards per game.

Scott City is looking to snap their three-game losing streak, following a 38-0 shutout loss at Holcomb last Friday night. It was the first time that the Beavers had been shut out in the series with the Longhorns. Holcomb led 14-0 at the break, and Scott City had a shot to pull to within one score before the break, until a turnover thwarted the threat. The Beavers were outgained 408-139 overall and gave up 298 yards rushing in the loss. Drew Metzger has thrown for over 500 yards and four touchdowns, and has rushed for nearly 500 yards and six scores, while Easton Eisenhour leads the defense with 76 tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown. Scott City is averaging 17 points and around 250 yards per game and giving up 33 points and over 350 yards per game.

The series will see the 55th matchup between the two schools, as Scott City holds a 43-11 advantage. The Beavers have won 22 consecutive including a 42-22 win at Goodland last year. Goodland’s last win in the series came in 2003 in a 42-6 victory in Scott City.

Kickoff is set for 7 pm, with pregame coverage on Mix 94 starting up at 6:30. You can also catch the game online at westernkansasnews.com and on the Beaver Broadcasting Network.
