Garden City bounced back in a major way Wednesday night, going on the road and defeating Hutchinson Community College 84–76 at the Sports Arena — a statement victory that marked head coach Tommy DeSalme’s first win against his former program.

The Broncbusters came out with energy and purpose, taking a 38–34 halftime lead behind tough defense and timely scoring. Garden City controlled the pace throughout the second half, extending the margin to double digits before closing out the Blue Dragons at the free-throw line to move to 6–1 on the season.

Jordon Nevill delivered his biggest performance yet, pouring in 26 points, including five three-pointers, while adding five rebounds and two steals. Every time Hutchinson made a push, Nevill answered with a momentum-shifting shot.

Zaire Lott continued his strong stretch of play with 15 points and two steals, attacking the rim and finishing in transition. Devonte Reed added 10 points, hitting 6-of-7 from the stripe, while Xavier Johnson contributed 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in a steady all-around effort.

Inside, Mangok Gach anchored the paint with 7 rebounds, 5 points, and two blocks. Off the bench, Christian Smiley provided an efficient 8 points, helping Garden City’s reserves outscore Hutchinson’s bench 36–6.

Defensively, the Broncbusters were sharp all night — forcing 20 turnovers and turning those into 27 points, while holding Hutchinson to just four made threes.

Hutchinson was led by Kyrell Shaw (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Bobby Cannon (20 points, 8 rebounds), but the Blue Dragons struggled to generate scoring outside their starting lineup.

With the victory, Garden City hands Hutchinson a rare home loss and gives DeSalme a meaningful win in his first return to the Sports Arena since coaching the Blue Dragons during the 2023–24 season.

Final Score: Garden City 84, Hutchinson 76

Garden City improves to 6–1.

Up Next: The Broncbusters return home to Conestoga Arena to host Pratt Community College on Saturday Nov, 22 at 4PM.
