Their top players shot for the stars, and now the coaches for two of the region’s top football squads have become the brightest lights in the sky.In the wake of Basehor-Linwood High School’s Carson Dixon and Leavenworth’s DyVair McCray earning the United Kansas Conference Football Players of the Year awards, their coaches have picked up corresponding honors, concluding one of the most impressive high school football seasons in Leavenworth County history.Basehor-Linwood’s Rod Stallbaumer has been named Sports in Kansas Class 5A Coach of the Year, while Leavenworth’s Sean Sachen has been voted the United Kansas Conference Coach of the Year.“A breakthrough more than a decade in the making finally arrived for Basehor-Linwood under head coach Rod Stallbaumer, who guided the Bobcats to a 12-1 season and their first ever trip to the 5A state title game,” the Sports in Kansas social media post read, naming him its coach of the year.Indeed, the Bobcats’ season rewrote the narrative of what is possible not just for his program, but for the entire region. With 12 consecutive winning seasons under Stallbaumer, the team’s first-ever appearance in the state title game was an appropriate conclusion to the year. With his 95 career wins at Basehor-Linwood, Stallbaumer is the epitome of steady excellence in a sport that demands constant evolution and steadfast leadership.Of course, just 12 miles north of Basehor-Linwood’s Kiester Field sits Pioneer Stadium, home of Sachen’s Leavenworth crew.A historic 9-2 campaign included a stunning nine-game winning streak – the only two losses coming at the hands of Stallbaumer and the Bobcats. As a result, Sachen took home the top UKC football coaching honor for 2025.
