Liberal, KS – Dasean Lewis came up clutch down the stretch Wednesday night, knocking down a go-ahead triple in the final minute and calmly sealing it at the foul line as Garden City Community College held on for a 77-76 win over Seward County inside The Greenhouse.
Garden City struck first and set the tone early behind Lucas Kalimba‘s opening bucket and a quick shooting barrage from Lewis, who splashed three triples in the first few minutes to push the Broncbusters in front 13-2. The Saints responded with a steady push of their own, cutting into the lead with timely buckets and second-chance opportunities, but Garden City stayed composed and took a 36-32 advantage into the break.
The second half turned into a possession-by-possession scrap. Seward clawed its way in front during the mid-half stretch, but the Broncbusters answered with key stops, extra possessions on the glass, and buckets from multiple spots to keep the game within reach. With the margin razor-thin in the closing minutes, Garden City leaned on its veteran poise—and Lewis delivered the biggest shot of the night.
After Seward briefly held the edge late, Lewis buried a huge three-pointer with under a minute remaining to put Garden City back in front. The Broncbusters then forced a turnover on the ensuing sequence and Lewis finished the job at the stripe to preserve the one-point win.
Lewis led the way with 23 points, knocking down six three-pointers while adding three assists and two steals. Zaire Lott chipped in 11 points, Kalimba added nine, and Devonte Reed contributed nine points and six rebounds as Garden City won the rebounding battle 36-35.
With the win, the Broncbusters split the series with Seward—both teams winning on the road.
Next up, Garden City returns home to host Barton on Saturday with tip scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
