Lady Beaver softball sweeps Dodge City
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a picture perfect Thursday afternoon, Scott City opened their home slate with a doubleheader against the Dodge City Lady Red Demons. It would be a sweep for the Lady Beavers, as they took the opener 13-3 in 4 1/2 innings, and rallied on a pair of occasions to win the finale 11-6.
Scott City 13, Dodge City 3, Game 1 (4 1/2 Inn.)
The Lady Red Demons got on the board first with a run in the top of the first. Despite not collecting a hit, Scott City would take the lead for good in the bottom of the frame with four runs to lead 4-1 after an inning. Dodge City got back two runs in the top of the second to pull to within 4-3, but a five-run rally for the Lady Beavers would give them a 9-3 lead. Scott City put up a pair of runs in the third and fourth, and trusted their defense to take the opener 11-3.
Scott City’s Bailey Wolkensdorfer struck out six, while giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits in five innings of work. Peyton Gentry drove in four runs and collected two hits in the opener. Crissa Irvin and Piper Fox scored three runs. For Dodge City, Abby Schriner, Anaya Heredia and Alea Smith had a hit and an RBI. Heredia went four innings, giving up five earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
Scott City 11, Dodge City 6, Game 2
As Coach Brian Gentry put it in his postgame interview, the Lady Beavers faced a little adversity by playing from behind for the first time this year. Scott City jumped out early to a 3-0 lead after the opening inning. In the second inning, The Lady Red Demons would take advantage of several walks, and scored five runs to take a 5-3 lead. Scott City tied the game with a run in the third. In the fourth, Dodge City used an error to take the lead back at 6-5. In the bottom of the frame, the Lady Beavers used four errors to lead 7-6, and added two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead, and hung on for an 11-6 win.
Bailey Wolkenstorfer shook off her rough second inning and allowed only one run in the final five innings, as she went all seven innings in the circle, giving up five earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Piper Fox had two hits and drove in two runs for Scott City. Wolkensdorfer had two hits and an RBI in the win. Dodge City’s Avery Harris gave up 11 runs, only two earned, on eight hits, and had nine strikeouts in six innings. Anjeli De Avila had two RBI for the Lady Red Demons.

Scott City is 4-0 on the year, and are off to their best start since 2022. They’ll be at Holcomb on Tuesday. Dodge City is 0-4 on the year and will be hosting Hays on Tuesday for one game.
