Garden City boys 2nd, Red Demons 3rd; Dodge City girls 2nd at 6A Regional
Dodge City, Kan. (westernkansanews.com)–It was a cold and damp day on Saturday at the 6A Regional Cross Country meet at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.
Both the Buffaloes and Red Demons would have good days, as Dodge City qualified both their boys and girls for state competition, while Garden City qualified their boys team and their girls just missed out, finishing fourth in the team standings.
Starting off with the boys, Maize edged out Garden City by two points, while Dodge City was third. The Buffaloes were led by Trevor Fry’s first place finish, while Garardo Gamez Mora of Dodge City was runner up.
On the girls side, Maize won the regional, while Dodge City and Wichita North tied with 64 points. The Lady Red Demons won the tiebreaker for second place, based on criteria of the sixth runner finishing higher. Garden City was fourth, and qualified three runners for state, as Liliana Romero was fifth, Cara Wiese 11th and Isabela Guevara 14th. Dodge City was led by Olivia Springer’s second place finish.
The top 15 individuals automatically qualify for state.
State Cross Country will take place at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence on Saturday, November 1. The girls will run at 10:35 am and the boys are scheduled to run at 12:20 pm.
