Holcomb boys, Scott City girls regional champions, Scott City & Lakin boys qualify teams for state
Dodge City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A trip to state was on the line on Saturday at the Class 3A Regional Cross Country Meet at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.
Teams dealt with cool and wet conditions throughout the morning, as the Holcomb boys and Scott City girls would take home regional championships.
On the boys side, Holcomb edged out Lakin by two points, while Scott City was the final qualifying team by placing third. The Longhorns were led by Brody Densiton, who was the regional champion, as they had two in the top four. Zael Bermudez of Lakin was second and Scott City’s Michael Hermosillo placed third. Cimarron would qualify two runners for state, as Asher English was eighth and Ian Harmon placed ninth.
For the girls, Scott City held off Norton by five points, while Ellsworth grabbed the final spot. Norton’s Emma Collins was the regional champion, while Cimarron’s Jyntri Wilson placed second. Lakin would qualify two runners, as Kate Miller was fifth and Lakyn Miller placed 10th. Scott City’s Belle Trout led four Lady Beavers in the top 15 with a sixth place finish. Layla Kisner from Southwestern Heights also qualified for state with a 12th place finish.
The 3A State Cross Country Meet will be held at Rim Rock Farm on Saturday, November 1. Class 3A Boys will start the meet off at 10 am and the 3A Girls will run at approximately 11:45.
