Letters to Santa
Printed in today’s paper are some of the letters and cards to Santa we received this year. Even if your child’s letter didn’t make it into print, rest assured it was carefully read and passed along to the North Pole.
As always, local children shared their holiday wishes in heartfelt detail. While many of the toys on Santa’s list are now more high-tech and sophisticated, the excitement surrounding Christmas remains unmistakable.
Perhaps it’s because children today are so familiar with GPS and modern navigation, none expressed concern about Santa getting lost or having trouble finding the right house.
We also noticed some Santa inflation. This year, one young writer requested $800 — a reminder that even the North Pole isn’t immune to rising prices.
It’s also clear that good behavior is still closely tied to Christmas expectations. Many letters emphasized just how hard the writers have been trying to stay on the “nice” list — with a clear understanding that Santa, and his elves, are paying close attention.
Perhaps most comforting of all are the familiar requests: asking Santa to watch over parents, making requests for young siblings, and inviting Santa to enjoy the traditional offering of cookies and milk.
