Garden City Holds Off Hutch for Big Home Win

Garden City, KS – Garden City snapped back in a big way Wednesday night at Conestoga Arena, outlasting Hutchinson 97-93 in a fast-paced, back-and-forth KJCCC battle. The Broncbusters led 43-40 at halftime and matched Hutch basket-for-basket down the stretch to close out the four-point win.
GCCC’s offense was powered by a balanced attack and a hot night from deep. Garden City drilled 13 three-pointers and shot 43.3% from beyond the arc, finishing with 21 assists on 34 made field goals.
Zaire Lott sparked the crowd with a team-high 21 points, burying seven threes in an electric shooting performance. Dasean Lewis added 16 points and a team-best five assists, knocking down six free throws without a miss. Jamir Westrychipped in 13 points and four assists while attacking the rim and getting to the line, and Lucas Kalimba was steady all night with 13 points and five rebounds. Xavier Johnson provided another key scoring punch off the bench with 13 points, and Mangok Gach finished with 10.
The Broncbusters came out aggressive early, getting quality looks and sharing the ball to build momentum, then weathered multiple Hutch runs behind timely threes and second-chance work. While Hutch won the rebounding battle (43-28) and controlled points in the paint (56-36), Garden City created extra possessions with defensive pressure—turning 17 Blue Dragon turnovers into 20 points.
Hutchinson was led by Kyrell Shaw, who poured in 35 points on an efficient 13-for-19 shooting night, keeping the visitors within striking distance throughout. Bobby Cannon added 13, while Chudier Dorar posted a strong interior line with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
In the closing minutes, Garden City stayed poised, answered every Hutch push, and made enough plays at the stripe to protect the lead and finish the job in a statement conference win.
