Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens

The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 7 of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Landyn Neitzel, Newton High School, bowling. Rolled the third-high series of 667 in a triangular with Andover and Goddard Eisenhower. Rolled a 239 game. Led Newton to a win in the meet.

Tanner McAllister, sophomore, Hesston High School, bowling. Rolled the high series of 706 in a dual meet against Cheney and had a 300 game. Had the second-high series in a triangular against Emporia and Salina Sacred Heart at 669 with a high game of 235.

Daniel Kuder, Moundridge High School, wrestling. Placed fifth at the Halstead Invitational at 4-2. Kuder is 9-2 for the season.

Girls

Kailyn Wright, Newton High School, bowling. Led Newton with a 336 series in a triangular with Andover and Goddard Eisenhower. Had Newton’s high game of 126.

Ashlee Ledford, freshman, Halstead High School, wrestling. Placed fourth at the Halstead Invitational at 170 pounds at 1-3. Is 13-13 for the season.

Zoey Yager, sophomore, Remington High School wrestling. Took second at the Halstead Invitational at 2-1 at 155 pounds. Is 15-8 for the season.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.

Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
