The Dodge City High School Athletic Department announced the hiring of Micah Womacks as the new head basketball coach of the Red Demons, pending Board of Education approval at the next scheduled meeting.

Womacks has served as the Athletic Director at Wichita West High School for the past two years. Previously, Womacks was an assistant coach at Dodge City High School from 2014 to 2019, working under head coaches Dennis Hamilton and Tony Starnes. He also held assistant coaching positions at Augusta High School and Wichita West. In addition to his coaching duties, Womacks will teach in the Physical Education department at DCHS.

Womacks is a native of Atlanta, Kansas, and a graduate of Flinthills High School and Pittsburg State University. He earned his master’s degree from Fort Hays State University in 2022. During his previous tenure at Dodge City, he taught mathematics and served as an assistant baseball coach. Prior to that, he was a math teacher and coach at Fowler High School.

“This is a special opportunity for our family and we are truly excited for the chance to call Dodge City home again,” Womacks said. “DCHS holds a lot of meaning to us, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to invest in a community we care about deeply. I look forward to building strong relationships and helping create a program that brings people together and reflects the pride of Dodge City.”

“We believe Micah is going to be an outstanding fit for the Red Demon Basketball program,” athletic director Shawn Steiner said. “We are excited to welcome Micah back to Dodge City. He is very familiar with our school, our community and the expectations of our athletic programs. His passion for the game of basketball and his commitment to getting more young athletes involved will be a tremendous asset as we continue to build and strengthen our program.”
