Man dies in Dodge City after gunfire, police chase

Dodge City, Kan.–At approximately 10:00 p.m. Thursday, a Dodge City Police Department officer was in the area when reports were received of a driver in a red pickup discharging a firearm toward another occupied vehicle.

The officer quickly located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver fled, leading to a pursuit. The pursuit entered Wyatt Earp Boulevard and continued west out of the city limits. Ford County Sheriff’s deputies assisted as the pursuit continued north on 105 Road, ultimately ending in a field.

Upon making contact, deputies located the driver with what appears to be a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers or deputies discharged their firearms during the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
