Scott City swept at home by Garden City
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Friday was a beautiful day for baseball in Scott City, as the Beavers played host to the Garden City Buffaloes. It would be a doubleheader sweep for the Buffs, as they took the opener in five innings 14-4 and the finale 21-10.
Garden City 14, Scott City 4, Game 1 (5 Inn.)
It only took four pitches for Garden City to score in the opener of the day. Jakobe Rathbun would open the scoring with a two-run home run to give the Buffs an early 2-0 lead. They would add another run in the first, and add two more in the second and open the game up with four runs in the third to lead 9-1. Scott City got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on an Aaren Radke RBI single. Garden City put up five runs in the fourth to lead 14-1, and the Beavers put up three in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn’t keep the game going, as the Buffaloes won via run rule 14-4 in five innings.
Jakobe Rathbun got the win, giving up a run on four hits and six strikeouts in three innings of work. He helped his cause on the mound with four hits and three RBI. Jonathan Almanza had two hits and drove in three runs, and Gavin Wells would drive in three runs as well, as Garden City finished with 13 hits. Scott City’s Spencer Cramer took the loss, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits with a strikeout. Aaren Radke had three hits and two RBI, while Avery Radke had two hits and drove in a run, as the Beavers collected seven hits in the game.
Garden City 21, Scott City 10, Game 2
While the Buffaloes won by 11 runs, this one went the distance, and was tight in the first three innings. Garden City opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first, only to see the Beavers respond with a six spot in the bottom of the frame. However, the Buffaloes would jump back on top with three runs in the second and third innings to lead 10-6. Scott City wouldn’t go down without a fight. After plating a run, Avery Radke would send a ball over the left field fence for a three-run home run to tie the game at 10. Garden City would respond with a pair of big swings in the top of the fourth. Jonathan Almanza would break the tie with a three-run blast, and two batters later, Drew Strecker sent a ball over the scoreboard in left field to make it 14-10 Buffs. Following a scoreless fifth inning, Garden City tacked on five in the six, and two more runs in the seventh to take the finale and complete the sweep with a 21-10 win.
Gavin Wells went 2 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs, six earned, on six hits with four strikeouts. Drew Strecker had five hits and drove in five runs, while Jakobe Rathbun had four hits and two RBI and Jonathan Almanza had two hits and drove in three runs. Garden City collected 21 hits in the finale. Taking the loss for the Beavers was Jackson Harris, who gave up four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Aaren Radke was the starter, and went 2 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits. Avery Radke had one hit and drove in three runs, while Teagan Feely had two hits. The Beavers had seven hits in the second game.

With the loss, Scott City drops to 7-9 overall and will host Goodland on Tuesday. Garden City improves to 10-7 overall, and hosts Dodge City for a WAC doubleheader on Tuesday.
