Scott City softball sweeps Ness-Trego, golf 3rd in Colby
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–As the sun came out for the first time in a few days, a nice day outdoors saw the Scott City softball and boys golf teams on the road, as softball was in Ness City, while golf was in Colby.
Starting off with softball, the Lady Beavers would get a doubleheader sweep over Ness-Trego, taking the first game in 5 innings 14-2. After two scoreless innings, Scott City exploded with eight runs in the third and added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Ava Deines hit a three-run home run Peyton Gentry and Adelei Zeller each hit a two-run home run. Baylee Wolkensdorfer went five innings giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts. In game two, the Lady Beavers scored in every inning, opening the game with four runs in the first, and capped off the scoring with a 12-run fourth inning, en route to a 23-1 win. They collected 21 hits in the second game. Peyton Gentry had four hits and seven RBI, including a three-run home run, and was a double away from hitting for the cycle, while Crissa Irvin drove in five runs, Ava Deines had a three-run home run and Adalei Zeller had four RBI, including a three-run home run. Riley Suppes gave up a run on two hits in four innings of work to pick up the win.
Scott City is not sitting at 17-5, and close the regular season out in Hugoton on Friday. The Lady Beavers currently sit second in the regional standings.
In Colby, the Scott City golf team took advantage of a nice day, placing third overall at Meadow Lake Golf Course. Goodland won the meet with a score of 337, while Colby was second with 353 and Scott City was third with a 355. Individually for the Beavers, Hudson Feely tied for fifth with a score of 83, Jagger Spangler-Carlson was seventh with a score of 84. Hunter Fry was in 15th shooting a 93, Drew Metzger shot a round of 95 and was in a tie for 21st, while Chase Culp tied for 37th and Kade John tied for 42nd.
Up next for the golf team is the GWAC meet at Buffalo Dunes on Monday, and will be at Colby for regional competition the following Monday.
