East holds off West in 53rd Kansas Shrine Bowl

Emporia, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The East team would hold off West 14-7 on Saturday night in the 53rd annual Kansas Shrine Bowl at Welch Stadium in Emporia, in front of over 6,000 fans.

All of the scoring was done in the first half, as the West led 7-6 after the first quarter. The East scored late in the second quarter and took a 14-7 lead at the break.

Both squads put together good drives in the second half, but the defenses would come up big when needed.

Holcomb’s Matthew Rosen started at left tackle for the west, and Jhett Price from Garden City and Hugoton’s Miguel Hernandez, Jr, saw signifcant playing time on defense.

Price collected two tackles in the game.

Despite the loss, the West outgained the East in total offense 277-218, but had three turnovers.

Emporia will host the next two Kansas Shrine Bowl games on June 26, 2027 & June 24, 2028.
