Lady Demons sweep dual in Scott City

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tuesday night was the first meeting in 10 days between Dodge City and Scott City. Earlier in the month, the Lady Beavers would win in three sets at the Liberal Quadrangular. This time in the Scott Community Events Center, it was Dodge City who took the best of five dual, winning in three sets 25-11, 25-21, 26-24.

Dodge City would dominate the opening set, despite an early 5-4 Scott City lead. The Lady Red Demons used a 10-2 run to lead 14-7, and after leading 18-11, closed the set with seven in a row to win 25-11.

In set two, Dodge City never trailed, as they opened a 13-6 lead midway through. The Lady Beavers would fight their way back with a 10-3 run to tie the second set at 18. However, it would be the Lady Red Demons who scored the next four points and never looked back, taking the second 25-21.

The third set would be the most competitive set of the night. Neither team would lead by more than two points. There would be 14 ties and seven lead changes in the third set alone. Scott City led 24-23 and had set point, only to seed Dodge City rally for the final three points to take the set and match 26-24.

With the win, Dodge City improved to 13-14 on the season. They’ll have a week off before they play in Hays in a WAC quad on October 6, against Garden City, Hays and Great Bend. Scott City is 10-9, as they will have a GWAC Triangular at Hugoton on Thursday with Hugoton and Ulysses, and will host the Scott City Invitational Dig Pink Tournament on Saturday.
