Improvements shown in latest drought monitor map

While the state has had significant rainfall over the past 48 hours, the latest Kansas Drought Monitor map shows small improvements for the state and the area.

The most improvement took place across a nine-county range in southwest Kansas toward the Colorado and Oklahoma borders. That areas is mostly now in a Moderate Drought, wtih a small sliver of Abnormally Dry conditions in Stevens and Morton Counties. Areas along and east of U.S. Highway 83, and south of the Arkansas River are in a Severe Drought, while Scott and Lane Counties, along wiht a small portion of Finney, Wichita and Greeley Counties are currently not experiencing a drought.

The rainfall collected Wednesday and Thursday does not reflect on the latest map, since the data was collected Tuesday morning. Expect dry conditions and normal temperatures over the next week.
