2016 sweepstakes award winners listed by KPA
The Kansas Press Association crowned sweepstakes award winners at the annual Awards of Excellence luncheon at the KPA convention in Overland Park April 23.
Newspapers competed in six circulation categories in both news and advertising. Sweepstakes award winners are the newspapers that accumulate the most points among their peer publications. First places get 100 points, second place receives 70 points and third places receives 60 points.
Sweepstakes winners included:
Daily Newspapers
Division I – Circulation 3,800 or less: News, the Ottawa Herald; Advertising, Leader & Times (Liberal).
Division II – Circulation 3,801 to 9,400: News, Garden City Telegram.
Division III – Circulation more than 9,401: News, Hutchinson News; Advertising, Great Bend Tribune (Divisions II and III were combined).
Nondaily Newspapers
Division I – Circulation 1,500 or less: News, Clarion (Andale); Advertising, Hugoton Hermes.
Division II – Circulation 1,501 to 2,800: News, Washington County News; Advertising, Kingman Leader-Courier.
Division III– Circulation more than 2,801: News, Kansas City Business Journal; Advertising, Atchison Globe.
More than 325 first-place plaques were handed out at the event in 56 different news and advertising categories.
