KPA, Kansas journalism lose two icons

Posted February 1, 2022

Kansas journalism has lost two long-time icons in the industry within days of each other.

Former long-time Herington Times editor and publisher Larry Byers died Friday (Jan. 28, 2022) and former Lawrence Journal-World general manager Ralph Gage died Sunday morning (Jan. 30, 2022).

Byers, 78, was a past president of the Kansas Press Association and was a leader in non-daily journalism in Kansas for 40 years.

Gage, 80, joined The World Co. in 1969 and played a significant role in developing the company's investments in print journalism, cable television  and software design. He was named to the Kansas Newspaper Hall of Fame in 2016.
