Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens

The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 10 of the winter sports season has opened.

The site is at https://contests.cherryroad.com/event/1a74b41cc2f645c4. (A link can also be found at www.thekansan.com).

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Emrik Torres, senior, Newton High School, wrestling. Won the 190-pound class at the Rose Hill Invitational. He is 32-13 for the season.

Tanner McAllister, sophomore, Hesston High School, bowling. Posted a 715 series and a 247 game in a dual meet against Classical School of Wichita.

Jesse Lutz, Moundridge High School, basketball. Scored 17 points in a 70-50 win over Marion.

Girls

Claudia Villadar, Newton High School, bowling. Rolled a 362 series and 157 game in a dual meet against Goddard.

Addison Wills, Halstead High School, basketball. Scored 14 points in a 51-49 overtime win over Hesston.

Chloe Hoelscher, sophomore, Newton Mustangs, basketball. Scored 19 points with nine steals in a 56-14 win over the Golden Belt Home Educators.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.

Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing [email protected]. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
